Description of Rule/Regulation
Example Situation
Scoring Systems
Hitting the shuttlecock over the net and hitting the floor in the court lines on the opposing player/teams side.

Smashing the shuttle to the ground
Starting play
Coin Flip.
Left hand side of the court serving = odd points
Right hand side of the court serving = even points.
0 points = serve from the right.

Officials

In an official game;
The Referee – conducted in the Laws of Badminton and Rules and Regulations
The Umpire - authority over a match and in charge of the court and its immediate surrounds.
The Technical Delegate (TD)
Linejudge – responsible for service, side or baseline during a match

Playing surface and dimensions

6.1m width for doubles
5.18m width for singles
13.4m length for both
The service courts are marked by a centre line dividing the width of the court



Equipment
Shuttlecock – made with a plastic base and 16 overlapping feathers
Racquet – width of 230mm and length 680mm
